Press release Three arrivals, three profiles
After Bertrand Delesne (Prati'Buches), it was Thomas Normand (Financière de l’Echiquier) and Xavier Macaire (Starter) who cut the finish line. While emotional restraint, Thomas Normand still marveled at his second place and the pleasure he took, when Xavier Macaire left detonated his joy in front of his family and friends came to celebrate his victory in boat series.
When he landed on the pontoon in Port Olona, Thomas Normand did not believe his eyes. It recently held a candle to most of the fleet with the exception of the Extra-Terrestrial Bertrand Delesne. He, the youngest of the race, tried hard to navigate as a sage, taking pleasure in every moment, adjusting his race to other conditions and performance of competitors. He nearly quit to withdrawing when his fuel cell run out after two days of racing. A stop in La Coruna, time to pick a generator, and Thomas leaves again, full of innocent enthusiasm to rally Horta. This second leg redeems all the disappointments of the round. It largely reflects the speed of adaptation of Thomas and his obvious talent.
The talent of Xavier Macaire was already known. Presented as a favorite in the race, he brought honor to his rank. His reputation for learning go particularly fast when the wind begins to climb, has once more been confirmed. Credited with the third fastest time on the back leg, he has also known the joy of knowing that he now held the speed record over 24 hours of boat series. Xavier plans for next year to join the Figaro Bénéteau circuit. His sense of race and temperament of flying should then find a way for expression.
Bertrand Delesne has needed a step, according to him, in order to review the full sensation of its prototype. But once found the right cadence, what festival! The costarmorican skipper has found the right moments to push his limits to get into the red and when it was let stand man and machine. His secret: play with the weather front that has accompanied throughout the journey. Staying ahead, Bertrand share enjoyed a strong wind and a sea not too formed. A successful strategy that allowed him to blow the competition and aligning day after day averages exceptional.
Towards an International podium proto
Behind those three, another group of competitors was in contention for fourth place overall and more importantly, the podium of the prototype leg. Nicolas Boidevezi (GDE), Véronique Loisel (De l’Espace Pour La Mer) and Andrea Caracci (Speedy Maltese) were held in less than three miles in less than two hours from the finish in Les Sables d'Olonne. In the end, it is Nicolas, who was likely to prevail Veronique and Andrea. Beyond the symbolic nature of this third place, Andrea Caracci would still a good move since it would take third place overall at the expense of Sébastien Rogues (EOLE Generation GDF Suez), Jorg Riechers (Mare.de ) prior to retaining the second place. This third place, Vincent Barnaud (NorthStar) has been a time hoped to conquer. The skipper of La Trinité sur Mer, author of a remarkable second leg was still the rope, before yesterday we had noted he slowed sharply in the last twenty-four hours. Confirmation was given by Véronique Loisel, who had doubled his colleague dismasted at the first floor of spreaders. Vincent is good, but we imagine that his disappointment must be up to the hopes he had had. Other sailor seems to struggle with difficulties, Ysbrand Endt (Mediabrein), boat series, which may have suffered the same fate. Obviously, the last depression which passed over the fleet has left its mark: between torn spinnakers, bowsprits broken or problems of rudders, single handed skippers have suffered. After twelve days at sea to carry the boats on the shaver's edge, the material did not necessarily need this last event.
