Press release All behind and him, before
A quick look at the map helps to understand: all series confused, Bertrand Delesne (Prati'Buches) wanders alone in the lead on his own music. As the little white horse of the song, he moves as indifferent to the waves that threaten to take the boat, confident in its path, true to its course of action ... In series, Xavier Macaire (Starter) plays a partition rather similar, even if it has around him of the presence of first prototypes on the hunt for second place.
There is sometimes riders who are touched by grace, as if nothing could stop them, or that their planet was not quite the same of that of their competitors. We have been known Michel Desjoyeaux in the last Vendee Globe, more recently, Armel le Cléac'h on the Solitaire du Figaro. The good fairies of speed seem to have decided to focus now on the case Bertrand Delesne. Almost always pointed to one to two knots faster than his opponents on a trajectory close to the ideal, he is in the process of imposing his mark on this race, without dispute. For proof, draft strategies devised by different from each other are now leading to a widespread tightening of trajectories in the wake of the leader. There is still the Gulf of Biscay to cross, but at this rate, Bertrand could land as early as Monday, setting a new record time on the crossing.
However, for the second place of the leg, nothing is played. The men of the south, if they took advantage of their situation these days, may be trapped by a high pressure rise and a fall in pressure gradient near the Cape Finisterre. Their speeds are already lower than those of the northern group and it certainly what Jorg Riechers (Mare.de) tried to deal an opposite course to the north ... which cost him nearly thirty miles on the direct route. The next few hours could be very uncomfortable for him, as for Lucas Montagne (ONG Conseil) and Andrea Caracci (Speedy Maltese). Still, the fight for the podium is very open: Jörg Riechers can lost big, Sebastian Rogues (EOLE Generation GDF SUEZ) relegated to 140 miles behind the leader, the surprise could come from a Vincent Barnaud (NorthStar) or Sebastien Picault (Kickers) which were only four hours of the podium.
Series: The Sprint
No strategic underhand trick waiting in series where more or less all the fleet follows the same trajectory. Only Hugo Lavayssière (Herve Sail Design) has shifted to the north of the fleet hoping to get more pressure in the coming hours. It is for others to make the most out of his machine and in this little game, Xavier Macaire excels. Amaury Francois (amauryfrancois.com) can still hope for a podium place if he comes to take fifteen hours to Davy Beaudart (Innovea Environnement) that point to 70 nm and about more than five hours to Robert Rosenjacobson (NED 602) Jean-Marie Oger (JMO Sailing) and Endt Ysbrand (Mediabrein). These three have a delay, at present, from twenty to forty miles on the man with the pink hull. Given the complexity of the weather conditions announced on the Vendee coast, anything can be possible and we understand that Amaury is trying to push his machine. Davy Beaudart handicapped by its problems of rudders, the closest competitors in the overall ranking come back near to the harpoon; the verdict may be a long wait, perhaps until the arrival of the leader of the first leg, to know the final composition of the podium in series. Freshness and lucidity will, without doubt, key to wrap the buoy of Nouch South as favor.
Farther back, the fleet arches its back: Marc Dubos (Cepat) announced today to a support boat he had broken his bowsprit. Nothing hopeless to reach the harbor of Les Sables d'Olonne, but at least, an unfortunate mishap. Other skipper dealing with some problems of road, Ryan Finn (Myrna Minkoff) was spotted by a plane of the Portuguese Navy was able to link VHF. Despite some problems with his conduct road shows (pilot, rudders?), all is well on board.
