On the Road again
After an extra 24 hours of rest as the Race Direction decided to postpone the start of the second leg Horta (Faïal – Azores) – Les Sables d’Olonne due to bad weather conditions, the 58 solo sailors left have finally taken the way back to Les Sables this Wednesday, August, 16th at 1:40 pm UTC.
The wind is calmer, some 15 – 20 knots North-easterly, the sea is still rough but the general atmosphere is happiness. The skippers’ menu for this second leg : northerly wind till Sunday, then they should have to face the high pressure ridge in the Biscay Bay.
Adrien Hardy (Brossard), has once again been the promptest to cross the starting line off Horta. Two skippers went back to the harbour just after the start. Fabien Després (Soitec) for a jib problem and Pierre Brasseur (Peintures Ripolin) to fix his automatic pilot. But they both could leave again very soon (2:45 pm UTC for Fabien and 3:15 pm UTC for Pierre). Winners of both categories, that is to say, Adrien Hardy (Brossard) and Francisco Lobato (BPI) are leading the fleets after a few hours of race.
